sternocleidomastoid muscle

since me and Jan are students of physioteraphy and we have to know all the anatomy of the human body, we decided to do a serie of photographies about the muscles of the body. this way, we can conciliate the studies with the passion for photography.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The sternocleidomastoid muscle has two heads:
The sternal head, which arises from the anterior surface of the manubrium sterni; and the clavicular head, which originates from the interior quarter of the clavicle.
They both end at the mastoid process of the temporal bone and the occipital bone of the skull.
These muscles, when acting together, are responsible for the flexion of the neck. When acting alone, they tilt the head to its own side and rotates it so the face is turned towards the opposite side.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
